Description
This is a service listing for the cleaning of the original equipment (OE) diesel particulate filter for the Ford Mondeo MK4 2.0 TDCi, covering models from 2007 to 2014. Our professional, workshop-based cleaning process restores DPF function to over 98% of its original flow capacity for a fraction of the cost of a new replacement unit.
The diesel particulate filter (DPF) is an essential emissions control component in modern diesel vehicles. Its function is to trap and remove harmful particulate matter (soot) from the exhaust gases. Over time, the filter accumulates not only soot, which is burned off during regeneration cycles, but also non-combustible ash from engine oil additives. When ash levels become too high, or if regeneration cycles are frequently interrupted, the DPF becomes blocked. This leads to increased exhaust back-pressure, which can cause poor fuel economy, reduced engine power, and potentially damage the turbocharger.
Common failure modes are progressive blockage from ash and soot. This is often a result of a driving style dominated by short, low-speed journeys which prevent the DPF from reaching the necessary temperature for passive or active regeneration. Other engine faults, such as a faulty EGR valve, leaking injectors, or failing temperature/pressure sensors, can also cause the DPF to block prematurely. In severe cases, attempts to force a regeneration on a completely blocked filter can cause the internal ceramic substrate to crack or melt, rendering it irreparable.
What this diesel particulate filter (DPF) fits
This DPF cleaning service is for the genuine Ford filter fitted to the Ford Mondeo MK4 built between 2007 and 2014. It is specific to models equipped with the 2.0 TDCi Euro 5 diesel engine.
- Engine Code(s): QXBA, AZBA
- OE Part Number: BM11073
- Alternative Part Number(s): 1731156
At Gap Turbos, our primary service for a serviceable DPF is a professional off-vehicle clean using advanced ultrasonic and thermal processes. This is significantly more effective than chemical-based ‘in-situ’ cleaning methods and is typically 70-90% cheaper than a new DPF from a main dealer. We can also diagnose and fit the unit in our Birmingham workshop. If your filter is found to be physically damaged, we can supply a new or reconditioned replacement. Note that DPF removal is illegal in the UK and will result in an MOT test failure.
All our DPF cleaning work is fully guaranteed. Contact Gap Turbos for a firm quote and technical advice based on your vehicle’s specific issues.

Common faults & troubleshooting
- DPF warning light on the dashboard: This is the ECU’s first indication that soot loading has reached a level requiring intervention.
- Vehicle enters ‘limp mode’ with reduced engine power: The ECU restricts performance to protect the engine and turbocharger from damage caused by excessive exhaust back-pressure.
- Poor fuel economy: The engine must work harder to push exhaust gas through the blocked filter, and may be over-fuelling in an attempt to trigger a regeneration, increasing fuel consumption.
- Failed active regeneration cycles: The vehicle may repeatedly try and fail to complete a DPF regeneration, sometimes noticeable by the cooling fan running for long periods after switching off the engine.
- Fault codes P2463 or P242F stored: A diagnostic scan will show codes such as ‘P2463 – Diesel Particulate Filter Restriction – Soot Accumulation’ or ‘P242F – Diesel Particulate Filter Restriction – Ash Accumulation’.
Fitting notes for this unit
- Always use new gaskets and fixings: Re-using the old metal gaskets on the inlet and outlet flanges will lead to exhaust leaks, affecting sensor readings.
- Inspect differential pressure sensor pipes: Ensure the small pipes leading to the pressure sensor are clear and undamaged. Blockages or splits in the rubber hoses will provide false readings to the ECU.
- Reset ECU adaptations: After fitting a cleaned or new DPF, you must use a suitable diagnostic tool to reset the ‘DPF Learned Values’ in the ECU. Failure to do this will cause the system to operate as if the old, blocked filter is still fitted.
- Check all associated sensors: Ensure the DPF temperature and pressure sensors are clean, functioning correctly, and torqued to the manufacturer’s specification upon reinstallation.
- Address the root cause of failure: Before fitting the cleaned DPF, ensure any underlying engine faults (e.g., faulty EGR valve, leaking injectors) that caused the original blockage have been rectified.
- Perform a static regeneration post-fitting: After resetting the ECU, initiating a forced regeneration allows you to confirm with diagnostic data that the entire system and its sensors are operating correctly.
