In 10 DPFs cleaned, not replaced
The 2.0 TDI VAG block (BKD, BMM, CAYC, CFHC, CBBB) is the second most common turbo we rebuild. Failure is almost always the oil feed pipe coking up and starving the CHRA bearings. Symptoms are whistling, power loss, DPF regen failures, and stored codes P0299 or P2263. Replace the oil feed pipe with the recon, always.
Symptoms and codes
- Whistling above 2,000 rpm: shaft-play, recon needed.
- Power loss to 60 mph limp mode: stuck VNT actuator on CAYC and CFHC.
- Failed DPF regen:
P2002often triggers when turbo underboosts. - Codes:
P0299,P2263,P0234,P132B. - Oil in intercooler hose: turbo seal failure, do not just clean, recon.
Fitting procedure
- Disconnect battery, remove engine top cover and airbox. Time: 15 min.
- Drain coolant if water-cooled bearing housing fitted (BKD, CAYC). Time: 20 min.
- Remove EGR pipe and DPF-to-turbo clamp. Time: 25 min.
- Disconnect oil feed and drain, vacuum line (BKD) or electric plug (CAYC/CFHC) on actuator, coolant lines. Time: 20 min.
- Undo manifold nuts (M8) and turbo-to-manifold nuts. Time: 20 min.
- Withdraw turbo through the top (Golf) or through the bottom (Passat B7). Time: 15 min.
- Replace oil feed pipe (mandatory), fit reconditioned unit with new gaskets. Manifold nuts
25 Nm, banjo bolts32 Nm. Time: 45 min. - Prime CHRA (crank 10 sec with injectors disconnected), refit ancillaries, refill coolant. Time: 30 min.
- Road test, clear codes, verify VNT range with VCDS. Time: 30 min.
Total workshop time: 3 hours 45 minutes on the Golf Mk6, 4 hours 30 minutes on the Passat B7 CFHC.
