// When repair is right

Sticky actuator? Whining VNT? Cracked vacuum line? Repair, do not replace.

If the CHRA bearings, compressor wheel, and turbine wheel are all sound but the electronic actuator, VNT vanes, or wastegate is faulty, you do not need a full reconditioning. We isolate the faulty component, replace just that, recalibrate, and ship.

  • ✓Electronic actuator failure (codes P0299, P132B, P003A)
  • ✓VNT vane mechanism seized from soot buildup
  • ✓Wastegate stuck open or closed
  • ✓Vacuum lines and diaphragm leaks
  • ✓Oil drain restriction (cleaning, not replacing)

Turbo repair: common questions

How do I know if I need a repair or a recondition?
Symptoms and fault codes give it away. P0299 with intermittent boost = usually the actuator. Whining at idle = often VNT carbon buildup. Smoke from the exhaust = bearing failure (needs recondition). Send us the codes and we will tell you straight.
Will a repair void any warranty?
No. Our repairs include a 24-month warranty on the part replaced and our labour. The rest of the turbo carries its original warranty if it was reconditioned by us.
Can you fix a turbo on the vehicle?
Some actuators yes, some no. Vacuum and electronic actuators on top of the CHRA are usually accessible. VNT mechanism cleaning needs the turbo off the vehicle.
What does a typical repair cost?
£180 for a vacuum actuator. £260-£340 for an electronic actuator with re-calibration. £220 for VNT mechanism clean and rebuild. Wastegate repairs from £200.
Do you repair petrol turbos too?
Yes. K03, K04, IHI, and Garrett petrol units are all in our daily workload. Tell us the OEM number and we will quote.
